Email everyone enrolled in a course, or the students you pick, now or at a time you schedule.

Beta. Course blasts are rolling out. If your course doesn't have a Blasts tab yet, use an announcement for now.

You'll end up with an email (a Blast) that reaches the students of one course, sent right away or scheduled for later.

When to use this

  • A new module or lesson is ready.
  • A schedule change, such as a moved live call for a cohort-style course.
  • Encouragement halfway through, or a nudge to people who stalled.
  • A thank-you at the end, and what to take on next.

Steps

Open the Blasts tab

Go to Offerings → Courses, open the course and click Blasts. Click Create Blast.

Write it

Add your Message. The Subject is optional: leave it blank and the email is titled "Course Update:" followed by your course's title. Format it with the toolbar above the message: headings, bold and italics, lists, quotes, links and images.

Choose recipients

By default it goes to All Enrolled Students. To narrow it, open Advanced Options, choose Specific students and tick the people you want. The list shows everyone enrolled; search it by name or email when it's long.

Choose when to send

Under When to send, pick Send immediately or Schedule for later and choose the Date and Time.

Send it

Click Send Blast, or Schedule Blast for a scheduled one. A blast you send now goes out right away and shows as Sent. A scheduled one waits in the list as Scheduled.

A scheduled blast can be changed with Edit, sent early with Send Now, or removed with Delete. Delete asks you to confirm first.

A sent blast can't be edited or deleted. Check the recipients and the message before you send.

Who gets it

  • All Enrolled Students means everyone whose enrollment is Active. People with an Unpaid enrollment (a checkout they didn't finish) don't get it. Refunded students don't either.
  • Specific students only lists people who are enrolled. Someone who enrolls after you schedule a blast to All Enrolled Students still gets it, as long as they're enrolled when it sends.

Tips

  • Blasts vs. automations. A blast goes to everyone at once. An automation sends something to each person the moment they enroll, including people who enroll later.
  • Blasts vs. announcements. Blasts go only to this course's students. To tell your whole audience about the course, use an announcement.
  • Point people back in. The email has a View Course button that opens the course, so a short note about what's new is enough.

What your students see

The blast arrives as an email from you with a View Course button. It's also kept on the course page under Messages from <your portal name>, so they can find it again.
