Decide what the public sees, what only your members see, and what only people with the link can open.

Use visibility to keep a public shop window while giving members a richer portal once they join.

When to use this

  • You want some offerings for members only, such as a members' chat space or a private content collection.
  • You want a sign-up pitch that visitors see but members don't.
  • You want to share something privately with a few people by link.

Visibility works at two levels

1. Sections (in My Portal → Design)

Each section that's switched on has a visibility setting under its name in the Sections tab:

SettingWho sees the section
Public & SubscribersEveryone. This is the default.
Subscribers OnlySigned-in members with an active subscription to your portal
Public OnlyVisitors who aren't subscribed. Members don't see it.

Your profile (name, bio, profile photo and cover image) is always public.

2. Individual offerings (on each offering)

Each event, session, content item or chat space has its own visibility:

SettingBehaviour
PublicListed on your portal for everyone
PrivateOnly your active subscribers can open it. Not the same as hidden: see What Private means
UnlistedHidden from your portal and member feeds, but anyone with the direct link can open it

A section shows an item only if both levels allow it.

Set it up

Choose section visibility

Go to My Portal → Design → Sections. Under each section that's on, choose Public & Subscribers, Subscribers Only or Public Only. It saves automatically.

Choose offering visibility

Open the offering (for example Offerings → Events and the event) and set its visibility to Public, Private or Unlisted.

Check every view

Back in My Portal → Design, switch to Preview and use Preview As:

  • Visitor: not logged in.
  • Logged In: signed in, but not subscribed.
  • Subscriber: a paid subscriber.

Common setups

GoalDo this
A members-only chat spaceSet the Chat Space section to Subscribers Only
Show the Join card only to people who haven't joinedSet Membership to Public Only
A welcome note only members seeWrite a private announcement and pin it as a highlight
Share a session with one clientSet the session type to Unlisted and send them the link
Work on something before launchKeep it as a draft if it has one, or set it to Unlisted while you finish it

Good to know

  • Unlisted works for content items, sessions and events. Whole courses can't be unlisted yet, and neither can items inside a content collection.
  • Content items, collections and Paths also have a Draft state while you work on them.
  • Pinning an item as a highlight doesn't change who can see it.
  • Preview shows your real live portal, signed in as that kind of visitor. It's the quickest way to check your work.

For the full new-member journey, including checkout and the welcome email, subscribe to your own portal with a second email address and a 100%-off promo code limited to one use.

What your members see

Visitors see your public sections and anything set to Public. Once someone subscribes, they also see Subscribers Only sections and Private items, and Public Only sections disappear for them.
