Let members ask questions, answer the ones that matter, pin the best and close out what's done.

The Questions board is "What your community is asking." Members post questions and upvote the ones they want answered. You answer, pin the most useful one and mark questions Addressed when they no longer need you.

When to use this

  • Members keep asking you similar things and you want the answers in one place.
  • You want a calm alternative to a busy feed for "how do I…" questions.
  • You want a question to bring into your next live gathering.

Set the board rules

In Community → Settings → Behavior, check Question board is on, choose whether Anonymous posting is allowed, and set Open questions per member (1 to 20, default 3). Click Save changes.

Open the board

Go to Community → Questions. The switch in the top right shows Board open ("Members can ask") or Board closed ("No new questions"). Closing the board stops new questions but keeps everything already there.

Find what needs you

Filter by All, Open, Pinned, Addressed or Removed. Sort by Ranked, Newest or Most upvoted, and filter by circle. The number next to Questions in the sidebar is your backlog.

Answer

From a question's ⋯ menu choose Reply, write "Your reply" and click Post reply. Or open the question, write under Your answer and click Post answer. Members see it as your answer.

Mark it addressed

Choose Mark Addressed from the menu, or Mark as addressed on the question page. "Answering doesn't resolve the question." Marking it addressed tells members it's been handled, and the question stays on the board for others to read.

Pin the most useful question

Choose Pin to top. Only one question can be pinned at a time, so pinning a new one replaces the old. Choose Unpin to drop it back to open.

Bring a question into a gathering

Open a gathering's run-of-show (Community → Gatherings → your gathering → Run of Show) and click Insert the community's top question. It adds your pinned question as a beat. If nothing is pinned, Soul asks you to pin one on the Questions board first.

Tips

  • Answer before you close. A useful answer, then Mark Addressed, helps the next person with the same question.
  • Pin sparingly. Pin a question that's useful to almost everyone, such as "How do I join the live gatherings?"
  • Anonymous isn't anonymous to you. Anonymous questions hide the asker from other members. You always see who asked, marked Anonymous to members.
  • Hold questions for review with a moderation policy in Community → Settings → Content moderation. Held questions and answers wait in Moderation.
  • Members hit their limit? If someone can't ask, they may already have the maximum number of open questions. Mark some addressed, or raise Open questions per member.

What your members see

Members click Ask a Question, can ask anonymously if you allow it, and upvote the questions they want answered. They can filter by Open, Pinned or Addressed. Your pinned question sits at the top. Your answers appear in the question thread under your name.
