AI usage and credits
How Soul AI usage is measured, what's included each month, and how to add credit, set a cap or keep going with pay as you go.
Soul AI usage is measured in Credits. 100 credits = $1. Settings → AI usage shows what you've used this month and lets you decide what happens after your included credits run out.
When to use this
- Soul AI says it's paused, or that you're nearing your allowance.
- You use Soul AI a lot and want to keep going without interruption.
- You want a firm limit on what you spend.
How your usage is paid for
Each AI request draws from these, in order:
Included allowance
Credits included with your Soul subscription every month, at no extra cost. The whole allowance resets on the date shown on the page. It doesn't roll over.
Prepaid credit
Pay as you go (optional)
Only if you turn on Continue when credit runs out. Usage is charged to your saved payment method, up to your monthly cap.
If none of these is available, Soul AI pauses until your allowance resets.
The AI usage page
| Section | Shows |
|---|---|
| AI status | AI availability (Ready to use or Paused), Current funding (which of the above is paying right now), Monthly usage and your Monthly cap |
| Included this month | "N of M credits used", the reset date, and a bar that turns amber at 80% |
| Prepaid credit | Your Available credit, with Add credit |
| Pay as you go | The Continue when credit runs out switch, and any unbilled usage |
Add credit
Click Add credit
Choose an amount
Pick 500 ($5), 1,000 ($10), 2,500 ($25) or 5,000 ($50) credits, or enter a Custom amount (credits) of 500 or more. Click Continue.
Pay
Set a monthly cap
Click Set cap (or Adjust cap) in AI status. Enter a Monthly cap (credits). It includes your allowance, so it can't be lower than it. Click Save cap. To remove it, click Remove cap (turn off pay as you go first).
Turn on pay as you go
- Set a monthly cap above your included allowance. Pay as you go needs one.
- In Pay as you go, turn on Continue when credit runs out and click Save.
Pay-as-you-go usage is charged once it reaches 500 credits ($5). Smaller amounts carry forward until they do.

Good to know
- A cap beats leftover credit. If you've reached your cap, Soul AI pauses even if you still have prepaid credit. Raise the cap to use it.
- How many credits a message uses varies with its length and how much of the conversation Soul AI re-reads. Long conversations use more; start a new chat for a new topic.
- A request can run slightly over. If a request finishes past your allowance, the difference comes off next month's allowance (you'll see "Includes N carried over"). It's never charged to your card unless pay as you go is on.
- If a pay-as-you-go charge fails, pay as you go turns off until it's resolved.
- One balance. If you also use Soul as a member, it's the same AI balance.
- There are no usage alerts by email or text. Check this page or the messages in chat.
- Soul AI needs an active Soul subscription. Without one you'll see "Subscribe to use Soul AI."
