Set up an automatic, personal welcome email for everyone who joins your membership. Do this before you launch.

The first email a new member gets sets the tone. Set it up once and every new subscriber is welcomed automatically.

When to use this

  • You're about to launch your membership.
  • New members ask "where do I start?"
  • You want new members to find your community, Paths and best content in their first week.

Start from Customers & Subscribers

Go to Business → Customers & Subscribers. In the "Welcome new subscribers automatically" banner, click Set Up Welcome Email.

(Or go to Settings → Automations → New Automation → Portal.)

Confirm trigger and action

When this happens... is User becomes an active subscriber. I want to... is Send Email. Click Continue.

Write your email

Enter a Subject, for example Welcome, I'm so glad you're here. Click Compose Email Content and write the body. Type @ to insert the member's name. Click Save Content.

Test it

Click Test Action, enter a sample name and your own email, and click Run Action to see it in your inbox.

Save

Click Continue to Review, name it (for example Welcome email), keep Enable this automation on, and click Save.

Once it exists, the banner on Customers & Subscribers disappears. Your rule is listed under Portal subscription automations and in Settings → Automations.

What to put in it

  1. A warm, personal hello in your own voice.
  2. The one thing to do first: join the community, start a Path, watch a welcome video.
  3. Where to find things: your portal link and the sections that matter.
  4. When you'll next be live, if you run sessions or events.
  5. How to reach you.

Tips

  • Mention Paths by name. Joining a Path is a separate step from joining your membership, so tell members to opt in.
  • Add a second automation with Ask to Fill Out Form if you want an intake form after joining. Or ask before checkout with a pre-subscription form.
  • Welcome community members too. Community → Community Members has its own "Welcome new members automatically" banner.
  • Pin a welcome announcement for members as a highlight, so the welcome is also on your portal.

Automations only send to people who subscribe after you've set them up. Members who joined earlier won't get it; send them an announcement instead.

What your members see

Your welcome email arriving right after they subscribe, from your portal name.
