Create a discount code for your membership, sessions, events or courses, with optional limits, conditions and an expiry date.

Promo codes are your main tool for launches, founding-member offers and partner deals. A code can take a percentage off, a fixed amount off, or give a free trial of your membership. All your codes live in Business → Pricing → Promotions ("Create and manage discount codes, trials, and campaigns").

The Promotions tab sits next to your membership pricing, but it lists every code you have: for your membership (My Portal), events, sessions and courses. The Offerings column shows what each code is for. Codes made from an event's Promotions tab appear here too. For codes that only discount your membership, see Discount your membership.

When to use this

  • Launch week: a discount that ends on a set date.
  • Founding members: a discount that lasts forever, for the first 20 people.
  • A partner or podcast: a code for their audience.
  • Testing your own portal: a 100%-off code limited to one use.

Open Promotions

Go to Business → Pricing and open the Promotions tab. Click Create Promotion ("Add a new discount or incentive code").

Choose a code

Enter a Code, for example LAUNCH30. Codes use uppercase letters, numbers and underscores only; anything else is removed as you type. Pick something easy to say out loud.

Choose what it applies to

Under Applicable Offerings, click Add Offering Type and choose My Portal (your membership), Session, Event or Course. Add as many types as you like. For sessions, events and courses, click Specify Offerings to limit the code to particular ones; otherwise it says "Applies to all" of that type.

Add purchase conditions (optional)

Once you've picked offerings, you can click Add Conditions to make the code work only for, say, one ticket or yearly billing. See Limit a code with purchase conditions.

Describe it

Enter a Description so you remember what it's for, for example Launch week, 30% off. It's required.

Set the discount

Under Benefit Type, choose Percentage off (1–100) or Fixed amount off (in dollars). Free trial appears when the code applies only to My Portal.

Choose how long it lasts (memberships)

For a code on your membership, choose the Duration:

  • Once: applies one time: "Discount applies only to the first billing cycle."
  • Forever: applies indefinitely: "Discount applies to all future billing cycles."

Add limits

Under Additional Rules, tick any of:

  • Expire after specific period: pick the date and time it stops working (in your local time). It must be in the future.
  • Limit total uses: how many times it can be used across everyone.
  • Limit uses per user: usually 1.

A checkout a member started with the code holds one of its uses, even before they pay, so a code can't be claimed by more people than its limit. The same member can still apply the code again to finish, for example from Complete Setup, and that counts as one use, not two. Once they pay, any other checkouts they left unfinished with the same code are closed and give their uses back.

Create it

Click Create Promotion. It appears in your list with status Active. Click the code to copy it.

You can also add a code straight from an event's Promotions tab, or ask Soul AI on Home to create one for you. Promo codes can't be used on passes or chat spaces.

Your list of codes

The Promotions tab lists every code with its Code, Benefits (for example "30% off • Applies once" or "14 day trial"), Offerings and Status. Search promotions… finds a code, and the filters narrow by Status (Active / Inactive) or Offering type.

From a code's ⋯ menu you can View details, or Deactivate / Activate it. See Manage, deactivate and redirect codes.

Good to know

  • Codes can't be edited or deleted from the dashboard. To change one, deactivate it and create a new code, or redirect it to a new one. Soul AI can change an existing code's limits, expiry or offerings for you.
  • A promo code discounts what someone pays. To change your actual membership price, see Change your membership price.
  • Codes can also be attached in other places: when you invite subscribers, or add an event attendee and send an invite. You still manage the code here.
  • See whether a code was used on a payment in Payouts & Transactions: the Promo attached line shows it.

Members easily miss where to enter a code. When you share it, say exactly where: "Choose your plan, then on the payment page click Have a promo code? and enter LAUNCH30." For events, sessions and courses, the field is labelled "Have a promo code?" at checkout too.

If a code doesn't work

Check in Promotion Details that it's Active, hasn't expired, hasn't hit its use limits, applies to what the member is buying, and that the member's choice meets any Purchase Conditions. If any of these fail, the code isn't applied. On a membership, event or session checkout, members see the reason under the field, for example "Promotion is expired". On a course checkout they see "Invalid or expired promo code".

What your members see

A Have a promo code? link at checkout. For your membership, that's the Subscribe page they reach after choosing a plan on your pricing page. Once they type a valid code and click Apply, the order shows the code and the amount taken off, with the lower total. On a course checkout they see "Promo code applied!".
