Promo codes
Limit a code with purchase conditions
Make a promo code work only for one event ticket, one billing cycle of your membership, or one session format.
Purchase conditions narrow when a promo code applies, based on what the member chooses at checkout. For example: 20% off, but only on the VIP ticket; or 10% off your membership, but only when they pick yearly billing.
When to use this
- An event has several tickets and the discount should only apply to one of them.
- You want to nudge members toward yearly billing with a yearly-only code.
- A session is offered both in person and online, and the discount is for one format.
What you can check
The conditions on offer depend on what the code applies to.
| Code applies to | Condition | Values |
|---|---|---|
| My Portal (your membership) | Billing cycle | Monthly, Yearly, One-time |
| Event | Selected ticket | The tickets on your event(s) |
| Event (all events, not specific ones) | Event visibility | Public, Private, Unlisted |
| Session | Preferred Modality | In Person, Online, Hybrid (only the formats that session offers) |
Courses have no conditions. If no condition fits what you picked, the Add Conditions button doesn't appear.
Start a promotion
Go to Business → Pricing → Promotions and click Create Promotion. Enter the Code.
Choose the offerings first
Under Applicable Offerings, add the offering type and, for an event or session, click Specify Offerings to pick the exact one. Conditions are built from what you pick here.
Add a condition group
Click Add Conditions. The group reads "All of these conditions must be met during purchase for the promotion to apply."
Add a condition
In Add new condition, pick the field (for example Selected ticket). Choose is or is not, then the value (for example VIP). Click Save. The condition appears as a line, such as Ticket selected during registration is "VIP".
Add more if you need them
Add another condition to the same group to require both. To remove one, untick it.
Finish the code
Fill in the Description, Benefit Type and any Additional Rules, then click Create Promotion.
Recipes
| Goal | Applies to | Condition | Benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discount the VIP ticket only | Event (specify the event) | Selected ticket is VIP | 15% off |
| Exclude the early-bird ticket | Event (specify the event) | Selected ticket is not Early Bird | $10 off |
| Encourage yearly plans | My Portal | Billing cycle is Yearly | 10% off, Once |
| In-person regulars | Session (specify the session) | Preferred Modality is In Person | $15 off |
| Discount public events only | Event (all events) | Event visibility is Public | 20% off |
What your members see
Nothing different until they apply the code. If their choice meets the conditions, the order shows the code and the lower price. If not, the code isn't applied, and they see a short reason under the field saying the conditions are not met. Say the condition when you share the code, for example "20% off the VIP ticket with VIPLOVE".
Good to know
- Conditions are part of the code. Like the rest of a promotion, they can't be edited later; deactivate the code and create a new one instead.
- You can see a code's conditions under Purchase Conditions in its Promotion Details.
