Discount your membership
Create a promo code that only works on your membership: launch offers, founding-member rates, yearly nudges and free trials.
A membership discount is a promo code that applies to My Portal, the name the dashboard uses for your membership. Members enter it on the Subscribe page, after they choose a plan on your pricing page.
The Promotions tab on Business → Pricing lists every code you have, including codes for events, sessions and courses. It isn't only for your membership. A code is a membership discount when its Offerings column shows My Portal.
When to use this
- You're launching your membership and want a launch-week price.
- You want your first members to keep a lower rate for as long as they stay.
- You want to nudge people toward yearly billing.
- You're inviting a partner's audience and want to give them a code of their own.
For a free period before the first payment, use a free trial instead. It's the same kind of code with a different benefit.
Open Promotions
Go to Business → Pricing, open the Promotions tab and click Create Promotion.
Name the code
Enter a Code, for example FOUNDER20. Codes use uppercase letters, numbers and underscores.
Apply it to your membership only
Under Applicable Offerings, click Add Offering Type and choose My Portal. Don't add other offering types if the code is just for your membership.
Choose the discount
Under Benefit Type, choose Percentage off or Fixed amount off. Free trial also appears here, because the code applies only to My Portal.
Choose how long it lasts
Under Duration, choose Once ("Discount applies only to the first billing cycle.") or Forever ("Discount applies to all future billing cycles.").
Limit it to a billing cycle (optional)
Click Add Conditions and add Billing cycle is Yearly, Monthly or One-time. See Limit a code with purchase conditions.
Add limits and create it
Enter a Description, then under Additional Rules set an expiry date, Limit total uses or Limit uses per user. Click Create Promotion.

Good to know
- A code changes what someone pays, not your price. Your pricing page always shows the full price. The discount appears on the Subscribe page once the member applies the code. To change the price itself, see Change your membership price.
- Codes can't be edited after you create them. Deactivate the code and create a new one, or redirect it.
- A code on My Portal only discounts the membership. It doesn't change what subscribers pay for priced items inside it. For that, set a subscriber price on the item. See What Private means.
What your members see
They choose a plan on your pricing page and click Continue. On the Subscribe page they click Have a promo code?, type the code and click Apply. The order shows the code with the amount taken off, Due today drops, and the button changes to the new price, for example Subscribe · $24 / month. A code that doesn't apply shows the reason under the field. Tell them where to type it when you share the code, and which plan to choose if the code has a billing-cycle condition.
