Membership
Close a paid membership or program
Stop a paid membership or program without surprise charges: closing it does not stop member billing, so each subscription has to be cancelled.
Closing a membership doesn't cancel anyone's subscription. Each member keeps being billed until their own subscription is cancelled.
When to use this
- You're ending a paid membership or program.
- You're moving your members to a different program and don't want them charged twice.
- You want to know the last day to act so members aren't charged next month.
What doesn't stop billing
None of these cancel your members' subscriptions:
- Deleting or archiving the membership or its price.
- Unpublishing your portal.
- Cancelling your own Soul plan.
You can't delete your portal or your account while members still have active subscriptions. Cancel them first.
Find each member's renewal date
There's no single cutoff date. Each member renews on their own date, counted from when they joined.
Open your subscribers
Go to Business → Customers & Subscribers and look under Active subscribers.
Check a member's renewal
Click their row. On Overview, the Subscription section shows their Billing cycle and Expires date. They're charged again on that date unless their subscription is cancelled first.
Cancel the subscriptions
There's no button that cancels every member at once. Cancel each one on their profile, as in Cancel someone's membership, or ask members to cancel their own from their Soul account.
When you cancel a member's subscription:
- It ends that day. They lose access to anything set to Subscribers Only straight away, including time they've already paid for.
- Nothing is refunded or prorated. To refund a payment, see Refund a member.
Cancel members whose last payment failed too: their subscription can still be charged.
Choose when to cancel
| Approach | Good for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Cancel everyone before the earliest renewal date | Closing quickly, with one round of cancelling | Members lose the days they already paid for |
| Cancel each member just before their own renewal date | Nobody loses time they paid for | Many separate cancellations, spread over the billing cycle |
Yearly members lose the rest of their year when you cancel, with no automatic refund. Decide whether to refund the unused months, keep them until their renewal date, or move them to your new program.
Move members to a new program
Migrate members invites people into your new program at their price, with billing starting on a date you choose. It doesn't cancel their old subscription: cancel that too, or they're billed for both.
