Send an email the moment someone submits a custom form, deliver a free download from a lead form, and know what Soul sends on its own.

The first few minutes after someone fills in your form are when they're most interested. Soul can send them something straight away, and what it can send depends on the form type.

Soul doesn't email you about new submissions. Check the form's Leads or Responses tab.

Email everyone who submits a custom form

Open the Automation tab

Open your custom form from Audience → Forms & Funnels and click Automation: "Automate actions after someone submits this form."

Create a rule

Click Create Rule. The trigger, Form response submitted, is set to this form. The action is Send Email.

Write the email

Fill in the Subject and click Compose Email Content to write the body. Type @ in a text field to insert a personal detail, such as their name or the form's title.

Test it (optional)

Click Test Action, enter sample values and run it to see the email arrive.

Name and save

Click Continue to Review, give the automation a Name, leave Enable this automation on, and click Save. Or Save as Draft to finish later.

The rule appears on the Automation tab and in Settings → Automations, where you can pause, edit or delete it.

Ideas

  • Intake form: "Thanks, I've got your answers. Here's how to prepare for our first session."
  • Application: "Thank you for applying. I read every application personally and will reply within three days."
  • Waiver: a copy of the key points and what to bring.
  • Survey: a thank-you, and a link to your next offering.

The email goes to the address on the response. On an Anonymous form, and on Optional forms where someone skipped their email, there's no one to send it to.

Deliver a free download from a lead form

Lead forms have no Automation tab. Their one automatic email is the free download you attach on the Landing Page tab under Incentive Content: as soon as someone signs up, Soul emails it to them, and the thank-you screen shows an Access Your Content button too. See Build a lead funnel with a freebie.

For anything more, follow up by hand: send an announcement to "Leads from [form] form", now or scheduled.

Send a form automatically

The other direction works too: an automation can send someone a custom form when they subscribe, book a session, register for an event, enroll in a course or join your community. Use the action Ask to Fill Out Form in Settings → Automations.

Good to know

  • Each rule sends one email, right away. For two emails, create two rules. There's no delay or drip sequence.
  • Automations only fire for new submissions, not for responses you already have.
  • Test with your own email before you share the form.
