Announcements
Edit, unpublish or delete an announcement
Fix a typo, change who can see a post, take it back to drafts or remove it, without emailing people by accident.
Published announcements stay editable. The one thing to watch is the save dialog, which asks again whether to notify people.
When to use this
- You spotted a typo after publishing.
- You want a post for subscribers only, or open to everyone.
- You want to take a post down for now, or for good.
Edit a published announcement
Open the editor
On Audience → Announcements, open the announcement and click Edit (or choose Edit in the card's ⋯ menu).
Make your changes
Save without emailing anyone
Click Save Changes. In the dialog, switch Notify members off and click Save without notifying.
Notify members is on every time the dialog opens. If you only meant to fix a typo, switch it off before you save. Saving without notifying also removes any broadcast the announcement had: a scheduled one won't send, and the Broadcast panel of a sent one disappears.
Notify more people later
To send an already-published announcement to an audience, keep Notify members on in the dialog, pick the audiences and timing, and click Save & Notify. People who already received this announcement aren't emailed again. Only people who haven't had it yet are reached.
Change who can see it
On the announcement's page, click Make Private or Make Public.
| Button | Confirms with | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Make Private | "Making this post private will hide it from public view. Only your subscribers will be able to access it." | "Post is now private" |
| Make Public | "Making this post public will allow all your subscribers to see it." | "Post is now public" |
An Unlisted post shows Make Public. To make a post Unlisted, use "Who do you want to send to?" in the editor.
Take it back to drafts
Open the editor, switch Notify members off and click Save Draft. The announcement moves to the Drafts tab and disappears from your portal. Its link stops working for your audience until you publish it again.
Delete it
On the list, open the card's ⋯ menu and choose Delete. It's removed straight away, with no confirmation and no undo. Deleting also removes it from your portal's Highlights, and its link stops working. Emails already sent stay in people's inboxes.
Tips
- Edits show on your portal straight away. People who open an old email see the current version.
- Prefer unpublishing to deleting when you might want it back.
- A scheduled announcement sends whatever it says at send time, so edit freely before then. To keep the schedule, re-enter the audience and time in the dialog. See Schedule an announcement.
