Chat Spaces
Add a chat space to an event
Turn on a chat for an event that everyone with a confirmed registration joins automatically.
When to use this
- Attendees should meet each other before a retreat, workshop or series.
- You want one place for logistics, questions and reminders around an event.
- You want the conversation to keep going after the event ends.
Steps
Open the event
Go to Offerings → Events and open the event.
Open the Chat Space tab
Click the Chat Space tab. You'll see "Create a dedicated chat space for this event where attendees can connect, discuss, and engage with each other before, during, and after it."
Enable it
Click Enable Chat Space. Soul creates a free chat called "Chat for <your event title>" and adds everyone who already has a confirmed registration.
Welcome your attendees
The room opens right in the tab. Post a welcome with the practical details (what to bring, how to join, start time) and Pin it from the message's … menu.
How membership works
| What happens | Effect on the chat |
|---|---|
| Someone's registration is confirmed, now or later | They're added automatically. No price, no join button. |
| A registration is cancelled | They lose access to the chat |
| Someone who cancelled registers again | Their access comes back |
| A registration is still pending (for example, unpaid) | Not added until it's confirmed |
You don't need to choose visibility or price. Who's in the room comes from the event's registrations.
Good to know
- An event has one chat.
- There's no switch to turn the chat off again from the tab.
- The event chat isn't listed in Offerings → Chat Spaces, and it doesn't appear on your portal. Manage it from the event's Chat Space tab.
- Attendees can't leave an event chat themselves. If you need to remove someone, use Members (N) in the room. See Moderate a chat space.
- For one-off messages to registrants, such as a last-minute room change, also send a message from the event itself so it reaches people who don't check the chat. See the events guide.
Turn on the chat as soon as you publish the event. Early registrants who say hello make the event feel alive for everyone who signs up after them.
What your members see
Once their registration is confirmed, attendees see an Event chat section on their ticket page for the event (View Ticket on the event page). They can post, reply, attach files and see pinned messages, just like any chat space.
