Keep a chat space safe and focused by pinning what matters, deleting messages and removing members.

When to use this

  • You want new members to see the room's guidelines first.
  • Someone posted something that doesn't belong.
  • A member needs to leave the room: they broke the guidelines, stopped subscribing, or joined by mistake.

As the host you can pin any message, delete any message and remove any member. You can only edit your own messages.

Pin a message

Find the message

Hover over it (on a phone the button is always visible) and open the … menu.

Choose Pin. The message appears in the Pinned strip at the top of the room for everyone.

Unpin when it's done its job

Choose Unpin from the same menu, or use the unpin button in the Pinned strip.

Pin your guidelines, this week's prompt, the next live date or a link members keep asking for. Keep the pinned list short so it stays useful.

Delete a message

Open the message menu

Open the … menu on the message.

Delete it

Choose Delete and confirm. "Are you sure you want to delete this message? This action cannot be undone."

If the message had thread replies, it's shown as deleted and the replies stay. Otherwise it disappears completely, including its attachments.

Remove a member

Open the members drawer

In the room, click Members (N). Use Search members… to find them.

Open their details

Click their name. You'll see their email, status and the date they joined.

Remove them

Click Revoke Member. They lose access to the room straight away.

Removing someone is permanent for that space. A removed member can't rejoin, even with the link. The one exception is an event chat: if they register for the event again, their access comes back. Removing a member doesn't refund them.

Tips

  • Write guidelines on day one and pin them. Three or four lines is enough: what the room is for, how to treat each other, what doesn't belong here.
  • Reply in a thread (… menu → Reply) to answer one person without filling the main room.
  • Speak to the person first when you can. A private word in Messages is often kinder than a public deletion.
  • If someone is causing harm across your portal, not only in one room, block them. Blocked people can't join or post in any of your chat spaces.
  • To pause the whole conversation, archive the space. Members can still read but no one can post.

What your members see

  • Pinned messages appear in the Pinned strip at the top of the room, with a pin mark on the message itself.
  • A deleted message disappears, or shows as deleted if people had replied to it.
  • A removed member can no longer open the room.
