Keep some of your recommendations as a perk for subscribers, and know exactly what everyone else sees.

You'll end up with some recommendations open to everyone and some saved for people who subscribe to your portal.

When to use this

  • You have a few go-to resources you'd like to give members as a thank-you.
  • You recommend a practitioner or retreat you only share with clients you know.
  • You want visitors to see that there's more inside when they subscribe.

Make a recommendation Private

Open your list

Switch its visibility

On the recommendation's card, open the menu and click Make Private. You'll see "Visibility updated successfully" and the card's label changes to Private.

For a new recommendation, turn the switch at the top of the Add Recommendation window off, so it reads Private: "Recommendation only for subscribers."

To open one up again, choose Make Public.

Who sees what

ViewerPublic recommendationPrivate recommendation
Visitor, not signed inCard, full note and working linkThe card and your note, but not the full link: it's cut back to the website's address

So a Private recommendation works as a teaser: people can see what you recommend and why, and subscribing gets them there.

Hide them from non-subscribers completely

If you'd rather visitors didn't see your recommendations at all, set the whole section to Subscribers Only:

Open the portal editor

Go to My Portal → Design and open the Sections tab.

Change the section's visibility

Under Recommendations, choose Subscribers Only. It saves automatically.

This applies to every recommendation, public or private.

Tips

  • Say it in the note, but keep secrets out of it. A Private recommendation's description is still visible to everyone who sees the card, so hint at the perk ("Subscribers get the link to my favourite retreat host") and never put a discount code or private contact details there.
  • Check the member view with Preview As in the portal editor before you announce anything.
  • Membership pricing is set under Business. See Membership pricing.
