AutoDM
Connect Instagram to AutoDM
Link your Instagram Business or Creator account to Soul, fix connection errors, reconnect after access lapses, or disconnect.
AutoDM works through your own Instagram account. You connect it once, and every campaign uses it.
When to use this
- You're setting up AutoDM for the first time.
- Soul says your Instagram authorization has lapsed.
- You're switching to a different Instagram account, or stopping AutoDM.
Before you start
- An Instagram Business or Creator account. Personal accounts can't be connected. You can switch in the Instagram app's settings.
- The account must not be connected to another Soul portal.
- Sign in to Instagram in the same browser, or be ready to.
Open AutoDM
Go to Audience → AutoDM. You'll see "Connect your Instagram".
Start the connection
Click Connect Instagram. On a computer, Instagram opens in a pop-up window. On a phone, or if pop-ups are blocked, it opens in the same tab.
Approve access
Sign in to Instagram if asked and accept all the permissions it asks for. AutoDM needs them to read comments and send replies.
Check the result
Back on AutoDM, your account name shows with Connected. You can now click New Campaign.
If you closed Instagram before finishing, the page shows "Authorization pending": "The connection exists but Instagram has not granted access yet." Click Authorize Instagram to finish.
Connection errors

Reconnect after access lapses
Instagram access is renewed automatically. If it does lapse, for example after Soul's access is removed in Instagram's settings, replies stop. You'll see "Your Instagram authorization has lapsed" when you select posts for a campaign.
Disconnect
On Audience → AutoDM, open the ⋯ menu, choose Disconnect Instagram and confirm with Disconnect.
Connect again
Click Connect Instagram and approve access with the same account.
Check your campaigns
Your campaigns come back, linked to the new connection, and resume replying.
Disconnect
Disconnect Instagram, in the ⋯ menu, "revokes access for [account] and stops every campaign from replying. Campaigns and their results are retained." Connect again any time to pick up where you left off.
Tips
- Use the account your audience knows. Replies come from whichever account you connect.
- Test from a different account. Your own comments and messages never trigger a campaign.
- One account per portal. To use a second Instagram account, it needs its own Soul portal.
