# Set your refund policy

> Decide whether your offerings are refundable, whether you'll refund in full, and what customers read before they buy.

[Settings → Refund Policy](https://portal.bringsoul.life/settings/refund-policy) (_"Control how refunds work across your portal. Offerings can override this default."_) sets your portal-wide rules. Each offering can have its own override.

## When to use this

- Before you start selling, so customers know where they stand.
- You want a different rule for one offering, for example no refunds on a retreat deposit.

**Step 1: Open Refund Policy**

Go to [Settings → Refund Policy](https://portal.bringsoul.life/settings/refund-policy).

**Step 2: Allow refunds**

Allow refunds (on by default) tells customers your offerings are refundable. When someone
requests a refund, Soul emails you, and you refund them from the payment.

**Step 3: Decide on full refunds**

Practitioner-funded full refunds lets you refund the full amount out of your own earnings,
including the card processing fee. With it off, you can refund up to what you received after
fees.

**Step 4: Write your policy**

Under Policy text, describe your terms in plain words (up to 2,000 characters). It *"Appears on
your offering pages so customers know your terms before they buy."*

**Step 5: Save**

Click Save Changes.

## Override it for one offering

On an offering's page (a session type, event ticket, course, content item, pass, or your membership on [Business → Pricing](https://portal.bringsoul.life/settings/pricing)), click Refund policy. It shows Portal default or Offering override.

1. Click Create override.
2. Set Allow refunds, Full refunds from your earnings and Policy text (shown to customers) for just this offering.
3. Click Save override. To go back to your portal default, click Remove override.

## Example policies

| Situation | Policy text |
| ---------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Sessions | _"Full refund if you cancel 24 hours or more before your session."_ |
| Membership | _"Cancel any time. We don't refund partial months."_ |
| Retreat | _"Deposits are non-refundable. The balance is refundable up to 30 days before the retreat."_ |

## Good to know

- With Allow refunds off for an offering, refunds can't be started for it, from either side. Turn it back on (or create an override) before refunding.
- Members request a refund after cancelling a booking or registration. Requests appear in [Business → Refund Requests](https://portal.bringsoul.life/refund-requests).

## What your members see

When they check out for an event or a session, the small print under the pay button includes your policy text (long policies are shortened), or _"Non-refundable."_ when refunds are off, or _"Refund requests are accepted."_ when they're on with no text. After cancelling a paid booking or registration, they see Request a refund on their booking or ticket page when refunds are allowed. The request form shows your full policy text.
