# Read a transaction

> Open any payment to see what the member paid, the discount, Stripe's fee, your net amount, payout status, refunds and who the customer is.

Every payment has its own page. It's where you answer _"Did she pay?"_, _"Which code did he use?"_, _"How much did I actually get?"_ and where you start a refund.

## When to use this

- A member asks about a charge.
- You want to see the fee and net amount on a payment.
- You want to check that a promo code was applied.
- You're about to refund someone.

## Open a payment

**Step 1: Find it**

Go to [Business → Payouts & Transactions](https://portal.bringsoul.life/payouts) → Transactions.
Type the member's name, email or the offering into Search transactions…, or click Filter to
narrow by Offering and Date range.

**Step 2: Open it**

Click the row. To go back, click Back to payouts.

You can also open a payment from a refund request (View transaction) or from the Open transaction details button in a refund request email.

## What's on the page

### Header

| Item                       | Means                                                                                                                                                     |
| -------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Amount, e.g. _$45.00 USD_ | What the member paid                                                                                                                                      |
| Status badge               | Pending, Completed, Failed, Refunded or Partially refunded                                                                                                |
| Pending payout             | Shown when this payment's net amount is waiting to be sent to your Stripe account. See [How payouts work](https://help.bringsoul.life/luminaries/business/payouts/how-payouts-work). |
| Charged to                 | The customer. If their details haven't synced yet, a refresh icon appears next to the name.                                                               |
| Transaction ID             | Quote this if you contact support.                                                                                                                        |
| Refund                     | Shown while there's still money left to refund. Greyed out with _"Refund unavailable while settlement is pending"_ until the payment settles.             |

If anyone has asked for a refund on this payment, each request is listed under the header, for example _"Refund request for $45.00 · Can't make it"_, with its status. Click it to open the request.

### Payment breakdown

| Line                   | Means                                                                                               |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Payment amount         | The price before any discount                                                                       |
| Promo attached         | The code used and what it gave, for example _"LAUNCH30 • 30% off"_ or _"TRY14 • 14-day free trial"_ |
| Discount               | How much the code took off                                                                          |
| Stripe processing fees | Stripe's fee on this payment. Hidden until the payment settles.                                     |
| Net amount             | What you receive. Shows _"Pending Settlement"_ until Stripe has settled the payment.                |

### Related products

What was bought, with its type. Click Open to go to that offering in your dashboard.

### Details

Created and Updated dates, the Product type, and the Promo code (or _No promo_). Two notes can appear below:

- _"Pending payout: $40.12"_: the amount still waiting to go to your Stripe account.
- _"Refunded $20.00 on Oct 2, 2026 • Couldn't attend"_: how much was refunded, when, and the reason.

### Customer

The customer's name and email, with Open person detail to see everything else about them in your audience.

If you see _"This customer's details haven't finished syncing to your portal yet."_, click Re-sync now. You'll see _"Customer details synced"_ when it's done.

## Tips

- Checking a launch code? The Promo line tells you if it was used on this payment. To count uses across many payments, use [Export CSV](https://help.bringsoul.life/luminaries/business/payouts/export-transactions-for-bookkeeping) and look at the Promotion Code column.
- A Free amount means nothing was charged, for example a 100%-off code or a free ticket. There's nothing to refund.
- A Failed payment wasn't charged. The member needs to try again with another card.
