# Offer a free or pay-what-you-can membership

> Use a sliding scale so members choose what they pay, from zero up, or make your membership free.

Let members choose any amount within a range you set, or join for free.

## When to use this

- You believe in sliding-scale or donation-based access.
- You want a free membership to grow your community, and sell offerings separately.
- You want to remove price as a barrier while still inviting people to support you.

**Step 1: Open Pricing**

Go to [Business → Pricing](https://portal.bringsoul.life/settings/pricing), on the Pricing tab.

**Step 2: Use a range**

If you see Pricing Tiers, click Switch to Range under *"Prefer a Simple Price Range?"*.

**Step 3: Set your range**

Enter a Minimum Price (USD) and Maximum Price (USD), in whole dollars:

| You want | Minimum | Maximum |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pay what you can, from zero | $0 | Your top amount, e.g. $50 |
| Sliding scale with a floor | Your floor, e.g. $15 | Your top amount, e.g. $60 |
| A free membership | $0 | $0 |

**Step 4: Add a yearly discount (optional)**

Enter an Annual Discount (%). It's *"Applied when members select the annual billing option."*

**Step 5: Save**

Click Save Changes.

## Tips

- Anchor the range. A maximum gives people a sense of what full support looks like. Prices can go up to $3,000.
- Say what the money supports. A line in your bio, which shows at the top of your pricing page, like _"Pay what feels right. Higher contributions keep spaces open for others"_ helps people choose.
- Free still collects information. Add a [pre-subscription form](https://help.bringsoul.life/luminaries/business/onboarding) to learn who's joining.
- Free members still get your welcome. Set up a [welcome email](https://help.bringsoul.life/luminaries/settings/welcome-new-subscribers).

**Warning:** 
Changing your range applies to new subscribers only. People who already joined keep paying what
they chose.

## What your members see

On your pricing page (`https://bringsoul.life/portal/<your-handle>/pricing`), a slider under Choose your monthly price that runs from your minimum to your maximum, with _"Every amount opens the same space."_ When both monthly and yearly billing are offered, they also choose how they're Billed. They click Continue · $X/month, create an account or sign in, and pay on the next page with Subscribe · $X / month. With a $0 to $0 range, they join without paying.
