# Capture leads from your portal

> Add a Get updates button to your portal header so visitors can leave their details without buying anything.

Many visitors aren't ready to buy yet. A Get updates button at the top of your portal opens one of your lead forms, _"without leaving the portal,"_ so you can keep in touch.

## When to use this

- You want a "join my list" option for visitors who aren't ready to subscribe.
- You're building interest before a launch, retreat or new program.
- You want every sign-up from your portal in one list you can email later.

**Step 1: Create a lead form**

Go to [Audience → Forms & Funnels](https://portal.bringsoul.life/forms), click Add Form, choose
Lead Form, give it a title (for example _"Stay in touch"_) and click Create Form. Only lead
forms can sit behind this button.

**Step 2: Open your portal**

Go to [My Portal](https://portal.bringsoul.life/portal). In the preview, click Add header
buttons (or Edit header buttons if you already have one).

**Step 3: Add a Get updates button**

Under What it does, choose Get updates: _"Opens one of your lead forms, without leaving the
portal."_ Set the Button text (for example _"Join my newsletter"_) and pick your form under
Which form. If you see _"You have no lead forms yet,"_ create one first.

**Step 4: Choose its style and save**

You can have up to two header buttons. Turn on Make this the filled button for the one you want
to stand out (_"Only one button can be filled in."_). Save your changes.

**Step 5: Test it**

Open your portal in a private window, click the button and submit the form. Check you appear on
the form's Leads tab.

## Tips

- Pair it with a freebie. A lead form with a [landing page and download](https://help.bringsoul.life/luminaries/audience/build-a-lead-funnel) gives people a reason to sign up.
- Make the button say what they get. _"Get the free guide"_ beats _"Subscribe."_
- Keep a membership button too. Use the second header button for Join membership (_"Takes visitors to your pricing page."_) so ready visitors can go straight to your pricing.

**Warning:** 
If you delete the form a Get updates button points to, the button stops working. Pick another form
for it.

## What your visitors see

A button with your text in your portal header. Clicking it opens your lead form in a window over your portal, asking for first name, last name, email and phone number. Their details land on the form's Leads tab and in [Audience → People](https://portal.bringsoul.life/audience/people) as a lead.
